International Degree Students

TKU Entrance Scholarships for Outstanding Overseas Students
  1. The Tamkang University (TKU) Guidelines Governing the Allocation of Entrance Scholarships for Outstanding Overseas Students (hereinafter referred to as “These Guidelines”) were specially formulated to promote internationalization at TKU, encourage outstanding overseas students to come to TKU for study, and subsidize miscellaneous fees associated with such study.
  2. A portion of the TKU budget has been allocated to fund entrance scholarships for outstanding overseas students.
  3. The scholarships are offered to newly-enrolled overseas students seeking degrees at TKU who have been approved by TKU’s Scholarship Review Committee.
  4. Specific items and quotas concerning TKU entrance scholarships for outstanding overseas students are outlined as follows (for the number of scholarship places offered in any given year, refer to the quota in the Admissions Booklet for that year):
    1. The Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Students (16 places)
    2. The Malaysian Student Scholarship (19 places)
    3. The Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Master’s and Doctoral Students (26 places in total, including 2 alternating places from each department of the College of Science / College of Engineering / master's degree programs taught in English)
    4. The Hong Kong Student Entrance scholarship (19~33 places)
    5. The Mainland Chinese Student Entrance Scholarship (12 places for bachelor’s programs; 8 places for master’s programs; the scholarship quota for PhD programs will be equivalent to the admissions quota for that year.)
    6.  The Macau Student Entrance Scholarship (5 places)
    7. The Thai Student Entrance Scholarship (2 places, master’s programs only)
    8.  The Indonesian Student Entrance Scholarship (5 places)
  5. Scholarship details:
    1. The following scholarships cover one year of student tuition and miscellaneous fees: The Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Students, the Malaysian Student Entrance Scholarship, the Outstanding Master’s and Doctoral International Student Scholarship, and the Macau Student Entrance Scholarship.
    2. The Hong Kong Student Entrance Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and miscellaneous fees for two academic years (1 place) or one academic year (2 places).
    3. The Mainland Chinese Student Entrance Scholarship covers student tuition and miscellaneous fees for two academic years for doctoral students; while undergraduate and master's students are awarded NTD $15,000.
    4. The Thai Student Entrance Scholarship awards master’s students a monthly stipend of NTD $5,000 for two academic years.
    5. The Indonesian Student Entrance Scholarship covers full student tuition and miscellaneous fees for one academic year.     
  6. Application review/evaluation procedures:
    1. The Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Students: Applicants must mark the scholarship type they are applying for on the entrance application form. The application information of students admitted to TKU will be passed to the Scholarship Review Committee, which will then review the candidates and devise a list of successful scholarship recipients.
    2. The Malaysian Student Entrance Scholarship: Lists of scholarship candidates will be submitted by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, New Era College, Southern University College, One World Hanxing Academy of Journalism & Communication and the Tamkang University Taiwan Alumni Association of Malaysia, and then passed to the Scholarship Review Committee, which will further review the candidates and devise a list of scholarship recipients.
    3. The Outstanding Master’s and Doctoral International Student Scholarship: Applicants must mark the scholarship type they are applying for on the entrance application form. The application information of students admitted to TKU will be passed by each department to the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs and then submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee, which will review the candidates and produce a list of scholarship recipients.
    4. The Hong Kong Student Entrance Scholarship: A name list of scholarship candidates will be submitted by the Tamkang University Taiwan Alumni Association of Hong Kong to the Scholarship Review Committee, which will review the candidates and devise the final list of scholarship recipients.
    5. The Mainland Chinese Student Entrance Scholarship: New students from Mainland China will be automatically placed on the scholarship application name list submitted to the Mainland China Student Scholarship Committee, which will review the candidates and devise the final list of scholarship recipients.
    6. The Macau Student Entrance Scholarship: The name list of scholarship candidates will be submitted by the Tamkang University Taiwan Alumni Association of Macau to the Scholarship Review Committee, which will review the candidates and devise the final list of scholarship recipients.
    7. Entrance Scholarships for Students from Thailand: Applicants must choose which scholarship they want to apply for on the TKU application form. If accepted, the applicant’s information will be submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for review and deliberation, and the list of scholarship recipients will be finalized.
    8. Indonesian Student Entrance Scholarship: The Tamkang University Alumni Association of Indonesia will recommend scholarship candidates to the Scholarship Review Committee, which will review the candidates and devise the final list of scholarship recipients.
  7. Applicants must submit either a Chinese proficiency certificate (TOCFL, HSK, etc.) or an English proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, etc.) along with their application documents for admission to TKU.
  8. Students who have been approved to receive a one-year scholarship for tuition and miscellaneous fees may apply for outstanding international student and low-income student scholarships starting from their second year of enrolled study. In addition, students who have been approved to receive a two-year scholarship covering tuition and miscellaneous fees or a two-year monthly lifestyle stipend must fulfill the following criteria to ensure the continued receipt of scholarship funds in their second academic year:
    1. Academic performance: The average grade of undergraduate students in the preceding academic year must be 70 or above, while the average grade of graduate school students in the preceding academic year must be 80 or above.
    2. Conduct: Students must not have any negative conduct records and must maintain a conduct grade of 80 or above every semester.
  9. In the case of any of the following situations, scholarship payments shall cease from the month following the occurrence:
    1. The student leaves Taiwan for purposes other than academic needs and fails to return to Taiwan within thirty days of the expected time of return; and, moreover, failed to gain the signed approval of their advising professor and authorization from their department prior to leaving.
    2. The student violates TKU regulations and is issued a major demerit or more serious punishment by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
    3. The student violates relevant laws and regulations of Taiwan.
  10. If students defer their studies, are expelled, or transfer to another institution, the resulting refund of tuition will be handled according to the Tuition Refund Table.
  11. Each student can only apply for one scholarship.
  12. Students awarded a large amount of scholarship funds by a relevant institution in the Taiwanese government cannot apply for any scholarships hereunder. In the event of an approved recipient simultaneously collecting a separate scholarship, funds already conferred under this scholarship must be returned.
  13. These Guidelines shall be implemented from the date of their publication after first being passed in a meeting of the Internationalization and International Exchange Committee and then being submitted to the TKU president for approval. The same applies to any amendments to These Guidelines.
The Outstanding Foreign Student Scholarship 

      1. This document is based on the "Guidelines for granting international student scholarships for colleges and their Chinese language teaching institutions from the Ministry of Education", with the purpose to encourage outstanding foreign students to study in the university and to help solve their living difficulties in Taiwan, thereby speeding up the university's internationalization process.
 
     2.Amount:
(1) Undergraduate and Master students shall receive NT $30,000 per semester.
(2) Ph.D. students shall receive NT $40,000 per semester.
(3) The Scholarship will be disbursed the following semester.
       3.Funding and quota:
(1) The scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Education and related school expenses.
(2) The number of scholarships granted each year may vary according to the Ministry of Education’s annual budget.
       4.Application Eligibility:
(1) Foreign students with formal application and enrollment of TKU, and in accordance with the Ministry of Education "International students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan".
(2) In the following semester, applicants must be students of foreign nationality who are not receiving government scholarships or the TKU Tuition Waiver Scholarship.
(3) Completed at least one semester in TKU, scored 80 points or more in the current semester for Conduct, must be of good behavior, does not have any bad records and who satisfied the following criteria:
a.Undergraduate students must take at least 9 credits per semester, with an average academic grade of 70 or above for the current semester and keep a clean behavioral record.
b.Graduate students must take at least 4 credits per semester, with an average academic grade of 80 or above for the previous semester. From their sixth and fourth years of study respectively, PhD candidates and graduate students will not be eligible to apply for this scholarship.
c. Graduate students who are working on their master or doctoral dissertations and are unable to provide an academic record for the previous semester should submit recommendation letters from their advisors of the departments or graduate institutes at which they are enrolled, as well as a dissertation plan. This should include: your research motivation, research structure, sources of research materials, research outline, research references, and etc. Graduate students who are working on their dissertations without taking at least 4 credits can only apply for the scholarship twice.
(4) Applicants must view participation in “Chat Corner” as a priority in the period in which they are receiving the scholarship.
      5. Application Process:
(1) The scholarship is open for application three weeks before the final semester examination. Students need to submit online application to the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICSA). Once completed, all application documents must be submitted to the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICSA) the week before the final semester examination.
(2) All scholarship applications and their supporting documents will be evaluated by the Overseas Student Scholarship Review Committee.
       6. Documents required:
(1) Chinese transcripts for every academic year (OICSA will collect students’ transcripts from Office of Academic Affairs, students do not need to hand in.)
(2) Proof of priority participation in 20 hours of TKU Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICSA) activities for the previous semester—not required for first time applicants (activity content and times shall be determined by the OICSA, which will assume a supervisory role during such activities).
(3) Low-income Certificate if any, for audit purposes
(4) Proof of excellent performance (e.g. journal publications, awards, extracurricular activities) and other documents that may be helpful.
       7. Scholarship recipients must prioritize participation in TKU activities for 20 hours per semester. Activity content and times shall be determined by the OICSA, which will assume a supervisory role during such activities.
 
      8. Students who did not complete their registration in the following semester will not be awarded the scholarship. Scholarship disbursement that has been awarded will be taken back
 
      9. The above regulations take effect from the date of their promulgation, after being approved by the International and Exchange Student Committee. The same applies to any amendments made thereafter.
 
TKU Foreign Students Financial Aid

1. Application Eligibility: 
  (1) Foreign students with formal application and enrollment of TKU, and in accordance with the Ministry of Education "International students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan".
  (2) Those who already received Taiwan Government Scholarships, TKU Entrance Scholarships and The Outstanding Foreign Student Scholarship and Financial Aid Scholarship are not qualified to apply.
  (3) For freshman that do not have any score record need to submit Chinese or English proficiency certificate and other documents. Those who already completed at least one semester in TKU, scored 80 points or more in the current semester for Conduct, must be of good behavior, does not have any bad records and who satisfied the following criteria:
    a. Undergraduate students must take at least 6 credits per semester, with an average academic grade of 70 or above for the current semester and keep a clean behavioral record.
    b. Graduate students must take at least 4 credits per semester, with an average academic grade of 80 or above for the previous semester. From their sixth and fourth years of study respectively,PhD candidates and graduate students will not be eligible to apply for this scholarship.
    c. Graduate students who are working on their master or doctoral dissertations and are unable to provide an academic record for the previous semester should submit recommendation letters from their advisors of the departments or graduate institutes at which they are enrolled, as well as a dissertation plan.   (1) Students should download the scholarship application forms from the website of Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICSA). 
  (2) All scholarship applications and their supporting documents will be evaluated by the Overseas Student Scholarship Review Committee.
The Taiwan Scholarship

The Taiwan Scholarship is offered to International students by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tamkang University’s Chang Yeo Lan Scholarship
1. Application Eligibility:Newly-admitted overseas students are automatically included in the list of candidates for “Tamkang University’s Chang Yeo Lan Scholarship”.
2.Amout& Numbers of Recipient: 
    Bachelor’s Program:
The amount of the scholarship and the number of recipients will be adjusted according to the number of recipients of "Outstanding Overseas Chinese Student Scholarship" co-sponsored by TKU and the Overseas Community Affairs Council in the current year.
    Master’s & Doctoral Program:
10 students as a principle, each receives NT$100,000.
