2. Item(s) covered under the subsidy: Accommodation costs associated with legally appointed quarantine hotels or quarantine centers.

3. Eligibility requirements:

(a) Returning or newly arrived students entering Taiwan who have received approval under the Ministry of Education's “Overseas Student Returning for Study Program”; the term “returning students” only applies to students who were unable to return for the second semester of the 2019-20 academic year due to the pandemic.
(b) Students housed at legally assigned quarantine hotels who do not violate any relevant regulations during the course of isolation.
(c) Students who have completed enrollment and rendered payment for the current semester.

4. Subsidy amount
TKU will partially subsidize the quarantine hotel costs for new students. In addition, the Dean of International Affairs recently held a fundraising event to help support overseas students, with a total of NT $3,203,000 being generously donated by alumni, faculty, and students, including Lawrence Lin, Chian Chen-Rong, Chuang Tzu Hwa, and Joseph Wang. As a rule, the sum of the two aforementioned subsidies provided by TKU and the subsidy amounts provided by the government (including the Ministry of Health and Welfare Quarantine Subsidy and the Overseas Community Affairs Council New Student Subsidy) shall not exceed the cost of quarantine accommodation. Subsidy amounts are outlined below:

(a) Maximum NT $8,000 per person for returning students or new students who are eligible for the Ministry of Health and Welfare Quarantine Subsidy
(b) Maximum NT $14,000 per person for new students who are unable to apply for the Ministry of Health and Welfare Quarantine Subsidy
(c) An income tax deduction of 6% will be levied on the subsidy if the overseas student has been in Taiwan for fewer than 183 days in the corresponding tax year as per the TKU Office of the Comptroller's list of tax rates. For example, an amount of NT $480 will be deducted from the NT $8,000 subsidy, leaving the student with a net amount of NT $7,520. Similarly, NT $840 will be deducted from the NT $14,000 subsidy, leaving the student with a net amount of NT $13,160.
(d) Students graduating in June 2021 must sign an official statement verifying that they will be staying in Taiwan for at least 183 days this year and may only leave Taiwan after July 3, 2021. Those who do not do so will incur the tax deductions outlined above.
